Need a break? Try a transatlantic sailing!

by Christy Camren

Seabourn on DeckDo you need a vacation? I mean a real vacation. I LOVE to travel but as much as I enjoy exploring and learning about different cultures it’s not always what I would call relaxing.  Sometimes I just need a break.

For the last few years my family has spending a week each summer at a cottage on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. The only internet access available is dial up, and since patience isn’t one of my virtues, I only use it in emergencies. There’s a full kitchen but we have so many favorites among the restaurants within walking distance that we don’t ever cook. We park the car when we arrive and don’t start the engine again until the day we leave.

I want to say again that I love, love, love traveling to new places, meeting new people, and experiencing new things. But I also love, love, love being able to sit on a lounge chair, smell the ocean air and know that I can’t work even if I want to. (I enjoy my work, so often find myself working in the evenings, on weekends etc.) These days at the ocean have become a much anticipated, and needed, break for me.

seabourn cruises staffSheila Bielich of Seabourn was in the office last night and mentioned that she loves the transatlantic cruises for the same reason. (A transatlantic cruise typically travels between Europe and the US to move the ships for the next season.) “You can spend almost 2 weeks being pampered and just letting the staff envelope you,” she said.  (The staff to guest ratio on Seabourn’s ships is virtually 1:1) “It’s so nice to sit on the deck and read a book without feeling guilty.” Because really, when you’re traveling there are so many new things to see, do and explore that you don’t want to waste time reading. And when you’re home… who has time to read?

seabourn luxury Of course I’ve known about transatlantic sailings but never really thought of them as much more than an interesting way to travel between the US and Europe, or a less expensive way to experience a cruise. Now I can add another description: forced relaxation! Sign me up!

**NOTE**
A cruise with Seabourn is an all-inclusive experience. All food and drinks on board are complimentary (including your mini-bar, stocked with your favorites) and you will be PAMPERED! (Have I mentioned the 1:1 passenger to staff ratio??)

If you decide you need a break from all that relaxing you can enjoy a deck party, dancing and movies under the stars, lectures, cooking demonstrations and more.
